So, Bollywood isn’t doing too well in theaters right now. But on OTT platforms, things are really good. I watched Sector 36 starring Vikrant Massey—it gave me goosebumps. And believe it or not, there’s already another series coming up. It has the same kind of fear, a real-life connection, and for people with weak hearts, it’s full of blood, tension, and horror. A new show called Manvat Murders has been released on SonyLIV.

Overview
This Manvat Murders web-series based on a real-life crime case that shocked the entire country almost 50 years ago, back in 1972. Just from one scene in the trailer, I was waiting eagerly for October 4. And honestly, Manvat Murders show didn’t disappoint at all.
But I have to warn you—this content is strictly for mature audiences. Keep children away. Also, this Manvat Murders show is the kind of show that you don’t just watch with your eyes—you watch it with your brain. Some scenes or even the idea behind the show might disturb you deeply in real life. So think carefully before watching, and don’t blame the show if you feel like throwing the remote at the screen later.
It’s set in a small village in Maharashtra. Over just a year and a half, seven murders happen—one after another. All the dead bodies are of young girls. The scariest part is that their heads were split right in the middle with an axe, as if someone had practiced the strike many times. Death started to feel like a game. But what’s even more horrifying than the bloodshed is the purpose behind these killings.
Blood was taken from the private parts of little girls. Indirectly, you can tell this isn’t the work of some random thief, cop, or serial killer. There’s black magic behind it—dark, evil magic. A crime so disgusting that it’s terrifying even to think about.
To stop this, one of the country’s top officers—who once captured the dangerous criminal Raman Raghav—is sent to the village. And his welcome is just as eerie as you’d expect. One night, when he tries to sleep, he finds a black doll under the bed—its body pierced with nails. That’s called voodoo. It’s used to control real, living people. Where science ends, that’s where this dark magic begins.
And now comes the most terrifying part. The man they suspected to be the killer spends the night in police custody. But the very next day, in front of the police, the real killer murders someone else. That means the police failed, the system failed—so when will this game of death stop? How can anyone protect others when they’re scared just to sleep at night?
Oh, and there’s even a character in this Manvat Murders show that’s a tree. Beneath it, there’s a treasure that’s hundreds of years old. But the tree is guarded by a spirit. I won’t reveal more than that.
To be honest, even the best screenwriters couldn’t have imagined something this terrifying. But it actually happened in real life. The real reason behind the murders feels like an electric shock—it’s shocking enough to leave your mind spinning. The amazing part is that the Manvat Murders show is based on a book written by the actual police officer who worked on the case. So you get all the true, scary details.
This Manvat Murders show is excellent. The suspense is gripping. Some scenes are so intense they leave your mind tired. The more you think about the story, the deeper you get pulled in. There are many characters, so your suspicion keeps shifting, and your mind keeps racing all the way to the 8th episode. To keep your interest, every episode ends with a big twist that makes you want to keep watching.
There are 8 episodes, but they’re only about 30 minutes each. That means in under 4 hours, you’ll discover the truth behind one of India’s most disturbing real murder cases. The best part? There’s no need to wait for season 2. The story ends completely with this season. But your mind might keep running like its own horror movie afterward.
One thing Sony LIV does well is this—they don’t cast big stars. The story itself becomes the real hero. It teaches you what true cinema actually means.
Manvat Murders is a truly shocking story. From the police point of view, the investigation feels real and natural. Some terrifying scenes also show off the director’s creativity. The background music is so scary, it feels like it reaches your soul.
On the downside, the show drags a bit in some places. The editing could’ve been tighter. Also, the fear that was described in words wasn’t always felt as strongly when watching it. But if you enjoy crime thrillers, this Manvat Murders show is definitely for you. Just promise yourself to sit through until the final episode. If you leave it halfway, you’ll lose the connection.
