If there’s anyone in this world who’s the biggest fool, it’s the person who pays to watch Jewel Thief movie on Netflix. But now I’ve realized the problem goes much deeper. At least Jewel Thief ended in 2 hours. This new thing is a 7-hour long torture. The Royals is called a web series, but it’s something else entirely.

Overview
The Royals web-series feels like a high-budget version of Ekta Kapoor’s Gandii Baat series, just with famous actors. The actors have changed, the sets have changed—hotels are now palaces—but the nonsense remains the same.
You’ll be confused whether there are more dialogues or more clothes being removed. There’s so much useless content that it’s hard to tell if it’s a story with adult scenes in between, or adult scenes with a story squeezed in.
Netflix shows usually follow a set pattern. A rich guy falls in love with a poor girl. Then there’s always a same-gender relationship—girl with girl or boy with boy. A powerful woman is shown who ends up having flings outside her marriage, and somehow her whole family gets involved. And at the end, all this is shown as completely acceptable. Anyone who disagrees is labeled backward or old-fashioned.
That’s the recipe for a Netflix series.
This The Royals web-series might be about a royal family, but don’t even think of watching it with your own family. Actually, don’t watch it alone either. Even if it’s free—just skip it.
They named the show The Royals, as if they’re portraying royal life. But if this is how royals live, then ordinary people are far better. The story begins with a king’s death and the division of his wealth among his three children. A new prince becomes king—but he’s completely useless. He loves horses, hates people, and doesn’t care about the kingdom. All he wants to do is work out all day. This The Royals web-series feels like it’s trying to break a world record for how many times an actor can take off his shirt.
Earlier, Bollywood only turned women into dolls. This The Royals web-series turns men into decoration pieces. Speaking of which, Nora Fatehi is in the show too, dreaming of becoming the queen. But her love story becomes a triangle when the most pointless character, Bhoomi, is introduced.
Bhoomi is supposed to be the CEO of a big company, but across eight episodes, she doesn’t say anything worthwhile. In fact, she barely talks, and doesn’t let others speak either.
Most people dream of starting from the bottom and rising in Bollywood. Bhoomi Pednekar seems to be doing the opposite. This time she’s hit rock bottom. Her choice of films really deserves a separate research project. It takes talent to keep picking the worst ones.
Remember the movie Khoobsurat? It had a similar royal theme—love stories, quirky royals, and relatable moments. Even Sonam Kapoor felt perfect in that film. This new The Royals web-series is the complete opposite. Every actor feels out of place. The cast is good, but they’re all forced to overact. It’s painful to watch, and you can only imagine how frustrated the talented ones must’ve felt while doing such scenes.
Basically, The Royals show is a mix of romance, adult scenes, cringe content, fashion show vibes, and same-gender love angles, all mashed into one dish and served over eight long episodes. They’ve thrown in English music, foreign actors, and even celebrity cameos at the end. But nothing can save it.
Sure, the palace sets look good and money has been spent. But the story? There is none. It’s full of forced adult content and bad acting from otherwise good actors. The Royals show drags on for eight episodes even though everything could’ve ended in one.
If you’ve ever thought “nothing can be worse than this,” Netflix is ready to prove you wrong. Be careful.
