Sunflower Season 2 Review: Dark Humor and Unpredictable Twists

Sunflower Season 2 Review

Brother, dark humor is the hardest category in cinema. It means laughing loudly at someone’s tragedy. You have to be careful not to overdo it, so the person doesn’t get hurt. Sunflower is the show that tried to achieve this impossible task 3 years ago. Believe me, even at a murder scene, you couldn’t help but laugh. And now, 3 years later, the show is back with Sunflower Season 2. The story is the same, but this time there are not just the ace cards, but also the king and queen.

Overview

First things first, you need to watch Season 1 before stepping into Sunflower Season 2. Otherwise, you might fall into a plot hole and it’s bye-bye. For the newbies, let me give a small intro, and trust me, you’ll enjoy it.

So, Sunflower is a society where Sonu, the smart guy, lives. He’s smart because his mom says that even if Sonu commits murder, he won’t get caught. And guess what, he gets exactly what he asked for. A strange murder happens in Sunflower. The murder isn’t committed with a gun, knife, or sword, but with coconut water.

But the law’s reach is long, my friend. The police arrive at Sunflower. Just naming the place after a flower doesn’t save the criminals. The problem is, only one person died, but there are so many suspects, that if you start counting on your fingers, you’ll run out of fingers but the list keeps going.

And in this Sunflower Season 2, guess what happens? An actual flower arrives at Sunflower. Now, every person in the society is buzzing around like bees. But you’ll be shocked by the final destination of the lady’s character. When you find out where she’s supposed to live, you’ll be the first one to call a spiritualist for a ghost. The murderer, by the way, doesn’t fear the police or even God. Because who steals eyes from a dead body?

You must have guessed that Sonu is the main suspect, right? Boss, this story is like a maze. Once you enter, you’ll get lost.

Let’s start with the good things. The eight episodes of Sunflower Season 2 may seem long, but if you watch them together, you’ll get into the flow of the show. The best part is the natural comedy. They won’t force you to laugh, the situations will make you laugh without even trying. But it’s not just about laughing, you’ll have to think hard. The plot keeps you guessing who to suspect.

This time, the character played by Ada Sharma is given more importance. This character adds a new layer to the show. It brings many small stories within the main plot, and you’ll have to solve them all. And speaking of Ada, the climax of Sunflower Season will blow your mind. It’s a real jump-scare moment, when you’re not expecting it, fear comes right in front of you.

Now, my complaint with Sunflower Season 2 is that Sunil Grover’s role has been reduced. How can you make a lead character a supporting one? We started watching Sunflower because of Sonu. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still important to the story, but this time, the story is not just about him. It’s not just focused on solving the crime this time. The police also have different angles, from which comedy is extracted.

That’s why, in Season 1, you got serious looking at two faces, but in this Sunflower Season 2, it’s the opposite. The police are now like stand-up comedians.

Let me be clear, if you want to see something different, something with a unique concept, then Sunflower Season 2 is for you. But if you want something perfect that’ll make you think, ‘I’ve never seen a show like this,’ then Sunflower Season 2 may not fit that bill. There’s a difference of 19 to 20 in quality.

Trying dark comedy is a big deal. Keep going. These people are experts at playing the game of suspicion. You can never predict who the killer is. The climax of the show, in reality, doesn’t end—it gives a new beginning. Ada’s character made Sonu, the police, and the other society members supporting characters. The main flaw is that Sunflower Season 2 has leaned too much into comedy, and the dark angle has weakened. Another flaw is that Sonu, the champion, is hard to find. Without him, the story feels incomplete.
