Overview

Detective Ujjwalan film is exactly 2 hours or 120 minutes long, but you won’t even notice how the time passes because every scene will keep asking questions in your mind. Just like in Stree Part 1, where men were not allowed to step out after dark because of the fear that a witch might take them away—only their clothes would be left behind. In the same way, in this village, no one is allowed to go out after 6:00 PM. And this rule wasn’t made by villagers—it was made by the police.

Detective Ujjwalan movie is the story of the safest village in India. People here have never even heard of crimes like theft, robbery, or violence. The biggest issues are things like someone’s dog going missing or less sugar in someone’s tea. And even for these, the police aren’t needed. The village has its own desi Sherlock Holmes, a man whose brain works faster than a computer. He treats Hollywood detectives as his gurus and loves solving complicated cases. He doesn’t ask for fees—he only wants respect.

There’s a clear deal between the police and this desi man: he will solve all the cases, and in return, the police won’t even file them in their records. That’s how this became the safest village in the country. But this free publicity causes big trouble when a madman openly challenges the local detective and the police—“Stop me if you can.” For the first time, a major crime takes place. A murder. And not just any murder—one that someone actually witnessed live.

You know those scary scarecrows that stand in the fields? Just looking at them alone during the day can give you goosebumps. The eyewitness claims that one of those scarecrows suddenly walked on its own and smashed a man’s head from behind. A dead body never lies, so the murder is real. But how did the scarecrow move? And if someone used it, why did they kill? The police have no idea, and the detective can’t believe that a murder has happened in his perfect village.

Then a senior officer arrives from the city. The moment he enters, the detective’s office is shut down. But what better welcome than a new murder case, which comes along with the previous one like a buy one, get one free offer. A village where no crime had ever happened now sees two murders within a few hours. And here’s a secret: the third one is being planned.

Could it be that the detective himself dressed as the scarecrow to commit these crimes and become famous by solving them later? Or why did the new officer arrive so quickly and suddenly? Maybe the one behind all of this is someone we’re not even doubting. Killers and saviors—both could be the same person. Maybe behind one face, a psycho killer is hiding.

Detective Ujjwalan is a lovely and confusing film. For 1 hour and 50 minutes, you will only see what the director wants you to see. You’ll doubt every character. No one will seem innocent. But the last 10 minutes will show you something that you could never have imagined, even if you watched the film ten times. The climax seems simple, but the way it’s hidden is genius.

Detective Ujjwalan isn’t much blood or gore in the film, but the method of murder is a bit scary. Especially the scarecrow idea—it might come in your dreams. The best part is that there are no time-pass scenes. No romance. No unnecessary item songs. It’s a direct face-off between the police and the detective, and you’ll have to decide who wins.

Watch Detective Ujjwalan on Netflix. Watch it alone or with family—whatever suits you. But don’t make the mistake of missing this Detective Ujjwalan film. It’s a small package with a big blast.
