Overview
Maranamass is a murder mystery again, but with a bonus twist: the story is about a serial killer. That means multiple people die, and the film will challenge your mind. If you’re confident, try figuring out the ending.
In Bollywood, we had a classic movie called Malamaal Weekly, where a dead body connects different characters and the film mixes comedy with suspense. This new movie Maranamass tries something in the same category. Maranamass movie shows a serious subject in a humorous way. But the ending will leave everyone surprised.
The interesting part is that in Malamaal Weekly, we knew all the actors. But in this Maranamass film, you might be seeing most of the actors for the first time. Still, they deliver the same level of entertainment. Have you eaten a banana? Silly question—you obviously have. But after this Maranamass movie, you might get scared of bananas. That’s because in this film, the identity of the serial killer is linked to a banana.
People aged 60, 70, or 80 are dying. Sometimes their bodies are found in the forest, sometimes in water, sometimes in garbage—and one thing is common: a banana inside the mouth. A banana that’s not even edible.
What makes this Maranamass film special is that it runs five different storylines at once. The serial killer’s story is just the beginning. Then there’s a missing dog case. A police officer’s dog goes missing. And do you know who the dog was last seen with?
Next, there’s a missing old man. He was kidnapped from an old-age home. Could it be that the dog and the old man disappeared together as part of a plan?
The fourth story is about a bus driver. After 21 failed relationships, he’s finally getting married to his 22nd match. But before reaching the wedding, something strange happens on his last bus ride—a murder.
The fifth and most entertaining story is about a guy accused of being the banana killer. Because of this accusation, his girlfriend dumps him out of fear. We don’t know if he’s the real killer, but one thing is clear—he’s a true lover. That’s why, after getting punched by his boxer girlfriend, he lets the whole world laugh at him.
You’re probably waiting for a big twist in the story. But the truth is, each story is a twist on its own. Eventually, all these characters come together to write a sixth story.
That bus driver’s wedding bus? The old man is sitting inside it. The missing dog is running after the bus. The boxer girlfriend is also on the bus, and the lover boy is chasing her on his bike. Even the serial killer is secretly traveling in the same bus. And what’s in the killer’s bag? Guess what—the main character of this film, the one on the poster. Remember? A dozen bananas. How many of those bananas get used today? That will decide the film’s ending.
Maranamass is an easy film to follow, a simple story, and perfect for watching with family. If you all watch it together, you’ll laugh and wish Bollywood made something like this too. The comedy, suspense, and ending are fantastic. On the downside, the story is a bit slow at times, and the serial killer doesn’t appear much, so it feels like he’s missing from his own role.
If you’re in the mood for something completely opposite—something horror—then go to theatres to watch the new Final Destination movie. If you want some adventure in life, definitely book a ticket for that one. It’s a very cleverly made film based on the theme of death. Give it a try—you’ll enjoy it.
