Overview
Let’s imagine that you and I are huge devotees of Lord Ganesha—Ganpati Bappa Morya! To show our strong faith, we decide to buy the most expensive Ganesha idol in the world and bring it home. But then a question comes up—why is it so expensive? When I looked into it, I found out something shocking: The idol is made from elephant ivory.
To explain it in easy way : the large white tooth-like structures you see on either side of an elephant’s face? That’s called ivory. And the idol we brought home is part of the world’s biggest illegal business—worth crores and crores of rupees. So many zeroes, they won’t even fit in two calculators. Try it yourself.
Now tell me this: if the face of an elephant gives life to Lord Ganesha, will He bless us when the idol made from a dead elephant is placed in our home—or will we be cursed with the worst kind of fate?
“Poacher” is the name of the web-series I’m talking about. It gives you a full jungle safari from your home—no need for a jeep. The only condition is, you need to give it around 5–6 hours. As you might have guessed, this Poacher web-series is about elephant poaching—not just hunting, but turning it into a full-blown business.
Kerala is called God’s Own Country, and it’s home to many peaceful animals. It’s like a green paradise. But into this divine land comes a demon, who starts wiping out elephants one by one. We’ve always read that the lion is the king of the jungle, right? Then it’s the lion’s job to bring justice to the elephants. But when even the lion is too scared to step forward, hiding in fear—that’s when you know a human has entered. The most dangerous creature on Earth.
Have you heard of the web series – Delhi Crime? If there were Oscars for Indian web series, that show would be number one. The creators of Delhi Crime are the same minds behind Poacher web-series. And the shocking part? Delhi Crime web-series was based on one murder, but Poacher is based on the deaths of more than 100 elephants.
Let me tell you straight why you should watch this Poacher web-series. The topic is very unique, serious, and even disturbing. Nothing like this has been made in India before. There was a movie called Sherni starring Vidya Balan—if you liked that kind of cinema, then Poacher will feel like winning a lottery.
These 8 episodes are nothing short of heaven. Poacher web-series is made in a police-investigation style—feels so raw and real, like watching actual CCTV footage, not a dramatized series. And don’t even think it’s boring just because it’s about animals—like some National Geographic or Discovery documentary. No way. It’s a high-stakes suspense thriller set deep in the jungle. You’ll even come face to face with the lion.
There are lota of twists and turns. Whatever you think will happen, the opposite happens. It’s a total brain-bender. The climax will leave you speechless. But I’ll remind you again—it needs your time. The story has layers, so it takes time to fully unfold. It’s intelligent cinema—not for everyone.
Since this Poacher web-series is based in Kerala, the makers did the smart thing—they cast actors who are famous for their performance, not their names. Nimisha Sajayan is so good, it feels like she was born in the jungle among elephants. Roshan Mathew’s character will remind you of the fun vibes from The Family Man. And Dibyendu Bhattacharya—he doesn’t just act, it’s like he’s reborn in every new story.
If you don’t like Alia Bhatt’s acting, this might change your view—because she’s the one who presented this show to the public.
Amazing concept, thrilling storytelling, excellent use of wildlife, and powerful acting. The only big downside? The villain characters aren’t that strong. After all the build-up, they don’t feel scary when you actually see them.
If you’ve already watched the show, don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments. And let us know how many stars out of 5 you’d give it.
