Today, I watched a different category of film that was released on Netflix, called Anuja. It is a live-action short film, and I had been thinking of watching it for a long time. When I finally watched it, I was surprised. Generally, we watch movies that provide us with entertainment, make us laugh, have a happy ending, include some songs, and offer a mix of mass appeal. Most people prefer such movies.

Overview
Anuja is the only Indian live-action short film nominated for an Oscar. The Oscars are happening soon, on March 3, 2025, according to Indian time. And I want you to watch this film not after it wins an Oscar but before that.
You might have already guessed from my words that I truly want this film to win an Oscar—not just because it is an Indian short film and out of patriotic feelings, but because it genuinely deserves to be there and to win.
The film is directed by an American filmmaker, Adam Graves, and produced by Priyanka Chopra along with other producers. Also, Guneet Monga is one of the producers. She already won an Academy Award in 2023 for the short film The Elephant Whisperers.
Anuja is only 22 minutes long, but it grips you from the very first minute. It revolves around a young girl named Anuja, who lives with her elder sister Palak. They have no parents. To run the household, Palak works in a factory stitching clothes, and Anuja helps her with everything. Anuja is a smart girl—brilliant in mathematics, with calculations coming naturally to her. Because of this, her elder sister wants her to join a boarding school. However, Anuja finds herself stuck in a dilemma. What is that dilemma? What is troubling her? And will she find a solution to her problems?
The ending of this short film will leave you deep in thought. You will be speechless. That’s the kind of impact it has. I can guarantee that after watching this film, you will be emotionally hooked to its story. You will keep thinking about that little girl and her situation. After some time, you will realize how fortunate you are to have things that many people struggle to get.
I strongly recommend you watch this film. I think we have made the best choice by sending it to the Oscars. And luckily, it has already been selected. Whether it wins an Oscar or not, it deserves all the love and appreciation.
So go ahead and watch it! Short films like this bring fresh perspectives, and this one is truly special.
