Overview
For the first time, a Conjuring film has been released in Indian theaters without any cuts, exactly as it was made. The censor board deserves thanks for that. The Conjuring: Last Rites film is rated R, which means only people above 18 can watch it, and the reason is the level of horror. But is it just hype or real?
The story starts with a baby who was born dead, whose heartbeat stopped for a full minute before somehow coming back. That baby grows up to be the daughter of Ed and Lorraine, the famous paranormal investigators. If you remember, she was the one who first saw the Nun. Like her parents, she also has powers to sense spirits and feel the presence of the supernatural.
One such feeling takes her to a poor family whose story has been all over the media. Their house is haunted, and eight members of the family are trapped. They can’t leave because they have no money, but they can’t live there either because almost every night, one person comes close to dying and ends up in the hospital. Everything is caught on camera. Their only hope is the Warrens, but they are retired.
Still, to protect their daughter, they finally enter that house. There they face a spirit they had encountered 20 years earlier, one they had once run away from in fear. But this time they can’t run, because their daughter is inside. They lost her once when she was born—can they save her again in the house of death?
To be honest, Conjuring: The Last Rites is not the scariest film in the series. It focuses more on telling a story than on scaring you. The real horror lies in the storyline, but the number of frightening scenes is fewer. That doesn’t mean this The Conjuring: Last Rites film is without horror. The last twenty minutes bring the real thrill and justify the R rating.
Even in the first half, there are a few jump scares and creepy monsters, supported by haunting music and silence that can stop your heartbeat. The climax may not be as powerful as a final Conjuring movie should have been, but the ending is emotional and will satisfy fans. The bond with these two lead actors, built over twelve years, makes this The Conjuring: Last Rites film feel real and personal—their fear, their love, and their family.
But there is one big disappointment. The Conjuring: Last Rites movie almost ignores the rest of the Conjuring universe. Annabelle appears briefly, but characters like the Nun are completely missing. The monsters shown here have scary backstories, but they don’t give that terrifying vibe. You can look at them directly without feeling like you need to shut your eyes in fear.
Overall, this The Conjuring: Last Rites is a very simple horror movie. The story is easy to follow, the ending is the classic good versus evil, and there are no big twists. What makes it special are the emotions carried over twelve years, the actors who feel like part of real life, and the last twenty minutes where the real magic lies.
On the negative side, the horror is very basic, and in 2025 when other modern horror films are so advanced, this The Conjuring: Last Rites movie might feel a little old-fashioned. Another problem is the wasted Conjuring universe, which could have made the film much bigger and scarier.
Still, if you’ve watched all the movies since 2012, this The Conjuring: Last Rites movie is a must to watch. Don’t think too much about positives and negatives. Conjuring is like a habit—you have to experience it one last time. So book your tickets quickly.
