Overview

Varun Dhawan, playing Baby John, is part of a Bollywood movie coming after a long time that seems flawless even in its promotions. Every poster is powerful, and the villain’s introduction is on a top level. The movie’s music is explosive and unique. The teaser pulls everything together in a way that may make viewers forget it’s a remake and not an original film.

Over the last 12 years, Bollywood hasn’t fully utilized Varun Dhawan’s potential, but director Atlee has now presented him on a level that’s 100 times bigger. And Atlee is only presenting the movie, not directing it. You’ll appreciate this film even more knowing that they achieved such a mass experience with a budget of just 85 crores. When watching the teaser, I felt that anytime people doubted Varun’s acting, it was likely the filmmaker’s fault. In the teaser, Varun shows versatility as a police officer, a villain’s rival, and a superhero for his kids. Only a skilled actor could handle these roles together.

Varun’s screen presence as Baby John is unexpected and elevates mass cinema to a new level. Especially the final scene with the horse—it will turn theaters into stadiums with noise louder than Diwali fireworks. The best thing about this teaser is that even if you replace Varun with another actor, the excitement would remain, thanks to the strong story. The past-present angle adds an intense surprise factor, and having two versions of Varun’s character elevates the movie to the next level. The actresses have limited screen time, but it’s enough to create suspense, showing the power of a well-hidden storyline.

People aren’t ready for what Jackie Shroff brings to this film—his single look seems to overshadow Tiger Shroff’s entire career. Strong films always have villains who match the hero. While pairing Varun with Jackie may sound odd, once you watch, you’ll be hooked. If you’ve seen the original Theri, you may have an idea of what’s coming, but there have been many changes to make this version better. Usually, mass cinema attracts a limited audience, but the added family themes make Baby John appealing to families too.

Viewing Baby John only as a mass film would be a big mistake. It’s based on real incidents and aims to deliver a strong message. I read somewhere that Atlee added scenes against crime so impactful that they may even make real-life criminals think twice. This is the purpose of the film. And did you know that Salman Khan has a special cameo as a fierce police officer who mentors Varun’s character? Baby John feels less like a straightforward remake and more like a reimagined film.

The way Baby John has been marketed and the way Varun is used in the teaser is what Bollywood fans truly deserve. This is a fresh approach—rather than just copying the movie, they’re enhancing it to give audiences a memorable theater experience. With Varun’s intense look and powerful background music, his action scenes will make you forget whether it’s a remake or original—you’ll just want to cheer and clap. For me, the teaser is perfect with no flaws, and Baby John is set to be Varun’s solid comeback after Bhediya.
