In 2025, Tamil cinema has only one mission: to hit the ₹1000 crore box office mark. Whether that happens or not is uncertain, but the kind of content that deserves ₹1000 crore is already here. Even now, if you ask some people, they’ll say South movies are all about over-the-top action and senseless comedy dialogues. But I guarantee you, once you experience Vidaamuyarchi movie, your perception of South Indian cinema will completely change.
The unfortunate part is that even the Tamil audience is not supporting Vidaamuyarchi movie, even though in four or five years, people will call it a cult masterpiece and an underrated gem. If the Hindi audience wants to understand how brilliant Vidaamuyarchi film is, just imagine if Salman Khan starred in the same story. If that happened, the film would make ₹400-500 crore just from advance bookings.
The word Vidaamuyarchi means persistence—or simply, determination. To understand its connection to the film, let’s go through a short story.
A vast desert stretches in every direction. In a country 3,500 kilometers from India, there is a small café. The café owner is holding a shotgun, aiming at an Indian man. If the man says a single word, the bullet will be fired, and his brain will land on the plate in front of him.
Now, let’s rewind a little. When this Indian man first entered the café, he asked the owner about his wife. Who is she? Where did she go? They had been on a 9-hour road trip, with only two people in the car—him and his wife. Now, he is inside the café, facing a gun, and his wife is missing. No one can see her.
Before you start thinking that he’s hallucinating, imagining a fake wife as real—stop watching too many movies! There are two real witnesses, a husband and wife, who saw the man and his wife together at the last petrol station while shopping. A crime has happened, a living person has disappeared. The police should step in, right? The police do arrive, but they bring bad news. In Azerbaijan, the crime rate is extremely low—almost zero. Now, saying this out loud might be risky, but a zero crime rate either means that no crime ever happens, or that the real criminals are the police themselves.
But this man is determined to bring his wife back, no matter what. His determination has now brought him face-to-face with a gun. By the way, if you figure something out about this story, let me know, because this man also has a bag containing ₹8 crore in cash—no jokes, all in cash, no checks.
If just two minutes of content sound this intense, imagine what you’ll experience in two hours! You tell me—do all South Indian movies still look the same to you? You might have seen many suspense thrillers in Bollywood and South cinema, but what about a road-trip thriller? A completely different, unique, and dangerous concept.
The last time I remember seeing something similar was in NH10 movie, and anyone who watched that film still gets chills at the mention of a road trip. Just like that, Vidaamuyarchi actually feels like a psychological horror film. The more you think about it, the scarier it gets. The biggest challenge in watching Vidaamuyarchi film is that you need to use your brain—it’s not an easy, mindless watch. But for those who connect with it, it’s like winning the lottery.
The best thing is that you won’t fully understand the story in just one viewing. You can’t predict the next scene because there are many characters, each with a hidden backstory. Vidaamuyarchi film has the perfect balance—50% is a brainy, classic story, and the other 50% is all about presentation. It has action, thriller elements, and stylish car fight scenes. If Hollywood had made this Vidaamuyarchi movie, people would be singing its praises. But when it comes to Indian films, the audience’s double standards are no secret.
Special credit must go to Ajith sir for selecting such a unique subject and experimenting with something new in Tamil cinema. It would have been easy for him to make a high-emotion family drama, release it during a festival, and comfortably earn ₹400-500 crore. But for a film like Vidaamuyarchi, even if it makes ₹100-200 crore, it will still be considered bigger than ₹1000 crore because it will change the audience’s taste.
Ajith sir’s screen presence in this Vidaamuyarchi film is top-notch. You won’t see a superstar—you’ll see the lead character of the story. His acting is so strong that it will leave you confused. In fact, the supporting characters in this Vidaamuyarchi film are just as powerful as the lead, and they have been presented with so much creativity that they won’t leave your mind till the very end.
This is a serious, no-nonsense film, with Trisha playing a key role. Her character is the key to unlocking the film’s mystery, so if you watch it, keep a close eye on her. Anirudh’s music is limited, but it gives the film an international feel.
On the downside, the action scenes are a bit ordinary—not at the level of expectations set by Lokesh Kanagaraj, even though there was plenty of scope for it. Also, Trisha and Ajith don’t have many scenes together, and the ones they do have don’t feel as emotionally impactful as they should. For example, the kind of raw emotion seen in NH10 is missing here.
But honestly, if Salman Khan were to bring a film like this, Bollywood’s comeback would be on another level.
