Overview

The story is set in a futuristic mythological world where the nine scriptures of Emperor Ashoka are shown. This is not a spoiler because the teaser of Mirai movie had already revealed it. These scriptures hold the power to give divine strength to ordinary humans. A dark force, played by Manchu Manoj, is after these scriptures. To protect them, a man is chosen, played by Teja Sajja. We have seen him in a superhero role before, and he had already shown his talent there. Here too, his performance stands out.

Since he had experience with such a role earlier, it helped him a lot in this Mirai movie, if I compare, his role and presentation in Hanuman movie were better than here.

One thing that really shines in this Mirai movie is the VFX and CGI. The budget was originally around 30–40 crores but was later increased to 60 crores, and they used it very effectively. Big films with budgets of 300–400 crores often fail to achieve the kind of effects this Mirai movie managed to deliver.

I thought that if they had a much bigger budget, the level of visuals could have been unbelievable. Despite some flaws, the VFX justifies the cost completely. The film has also earned from an OTT deal worth 40 crores, so it has already recovered around 80–90% of its budget.

Unlike Marvel or DC superheroes who are almost fully fictional, this film draws inspiration from Indian culture, history, mythology, and Vedic figures. That automatically creates an emotional and devotional connection with the Indian audience. The teaser showed the walking feet and folded hands of a monkey figure, but in the film that scene did not get the extraordinary impact it could have had, especially when compared to how Hanuman movie presented its climax. There, the climax felt deeply devotional and extraordinary, which is missing here. The climax could have been stronger.

One more good thing is that here is no unnecessary love story, no exaggerated romance, no item songs. Even the few songs present run in the background with the story, so the flow of the film is not disturbed. This makes it feel more content-driven rather than actor-focused.

All the actors have done well, and it’s hard to point out any major flaw. The villain’s role was good, and in the second half his backstory is shown, which adds depth to his character. The makers should have focused a bit more on trimming the length of the film because some scenes could have been cut to make it faster.

Comedy is there too—sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. The hero’s introduction fight scene in the first half felt a little forced, but the story does not drift away from its theme.

The action sequences are well done, and it’s impressive how they managed to create them with a smaller budget. I saw behind-the-scenes of the train sequence, and they actually used practical effects instead of over-relying on VFX, which made it look more real.

It feels like filmmakers who spend 100–400 crores to run films on big actors should instead invest in writers and cinematographers. That way, we would get more content-driven films like Mahavatar Narasimha, Loka, HanuMan, Kantara, Manjummel Boys, Minnal Murali, or Mirai. The way Vedic scriptures are used in this film to highlight Indian culture also helps us stay connected emotionally to our traditions.

Overall, it is a good film to watch. You can enjoy it with your family, and kids will like it too. Don’t leave after the movie ends because there is a mid-credit scene featuring a powerful South Indian actor in a cameo that sets up the next part. Make sure to share your opinion after watching.
