Overview

It’s common to see Hollywood movies being remade in India for profit. But here’s a film that Hollywood actually copied for their own success. Lapachhapi, originally a Marathi film, was so scary that when I watched it, I immediately ranked it in India’s top five all-time horror movies. Later, the same director remade it in Hindi as Chhorii. Surprisingly, even though the language changed, the fear level stayed the same in both.

I don’t know what happened with the Marathi version afterward, but the Hindi sequel Chhorii 2 is now out. I’ve watched it. Enough of those typical horror movies that just scare you with sudden visuals—this one messes with your mind.

By the way, Stree and Chhorii sound kind of similar, right? But don’t make that mistake. Stree movie had comedy. Chhorii 2 movie is serious, dark, and purely horror—no nonsense.

Now, the big question: Is Chhorii 2 movie one of those horror films that you should watch alone? Definitely not. Watch Chhorii 2 movie with your family—you’ll enjoy it even more. It’s a family-based horror story, meaning the whole plot revolves around family.

Another question you might have—do you need to watch part one before watching Chhorii 2 movie? Not really. The director himself gives a summary of the first part in this Chhorii 2 movie. But if you haven’t seen first part yet, you can watch it afterward. The scares are different in both films.

Speaking of fear, this story is about a prince even the sun is afraid of. Long ago, the sun tried to burn a little girl with its heat. But this prince saved her by hiding her in his darkness. That girl grew up and married the prince. Hundreds of years have passed since, but the prince is still alive. Since he doesn’t get along with the sun, he lives hidden in an underground cave. So why is the movie called Chhorii if it’s about a prince? Because he gave all his powers to the girl (the “chhorii”). He’s the one who kept her alive.

Still confused? The old queen finds new brides for the prince, and the new bride gives the prince his youth again. There’s actually a wedding going on in that cave right now. You can go check it out—but whether you’ll return safely depends on your courage. If your heart is weak, better stay away.

Let me ask a simple question: When you hear Soha Ali Khan’s name, do you think of any really good film? Probably not. It’s a bitter truth. But imagine a film where Soha acts so well that it feels like no one else could have done it better. That’s the power of this Chhorii 2 movie. Expect the unexpected. What you think will happen won’t, and what happens will be totally unexpected.

You might prepare yourself for horror, but Chhorii 2 movie hides a deeper story. It’s more of a suspense thriller than just a ghost story. And the other actress in the film? She probably broke a world record for getting beaten up the most in a movie. She gets dragged down stairs headfirst—one step at a time. You’ve never seen a female actor getting thrashed like this in any Bollywood film. It sounds easy when you hear it, but it’s hard to watch. Silent warning: There are disturbing scenes.

In short, Chhorii 2 movie is a brutal. It doesn’t differentiate between boys and girls. Whoever comes in the way gets beaten. Call it gender equality.

Actually, there’s no big star in the cast. So you won’t be able to guess what each actor will do. The story itself is the biggest surprise. It slowly blows your mind. The director finishes the job with amazing music and camera angles. Gone are the days when just a blowing door scared people.

Also, the more you watch it carefully, the more you’ll enjoy it. Later, when you think about it, you’ll realize there’s another story hidden behind the main one. Call it bold or gutsy—this director has shown our own families as the real ghosts. If you understand that, you’ll enjoy the film. If not, it’ll just be another time-pass horror movie.

One piece of advice: if possible, watch Chhorii 2 movie with headphones. I promise the experience will be 10 times more intense.

Bringing out the best from average actors and proving how good Nushrratt Bharuccha can act—that’s another achievement. The film’s concept is smartly linked to real life. It hides a story behind the story. And it proves that horror isn’t just about what’s shown—it’s about what’s made you feel. No fancy VFX—just a strong story that shocks you.

Now, to be honest, this one didn’t scare me as much as part one. That’s because the ghost in this film wasn’t used as effectively. Also, the girl in the film—the chhorii—wasn’t used in the horror scenes.

But still, do watch this movie. Try watching it with your family. Just don’t expect a masterpiece, and you’ll enjoy it a lot.
